FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FIRST TIME PARTICIPANTS

  • What can I expect the day of the event?
    • You will go to registration and check in – turn in your waiver and receive a wristband for your participant.  It will be one of 4 colors to correspond with the flags that show the rotation of surfing.  Each session will last approximately 25 minutes, they will come out of the water and the next color band has their session.
  • What time should I arrive?
    • You may arrive whatever time you like.  Surfing begins at approximately 9:00 am – the earlier you arrive, the more times your participant has an opportunity to surf.
  • How late does it last?
    • We surf until 4:00 pm
  • What if my child can’t swim?
    • We do require all children who cannot swim to bring a coast guard approved PFD (personal flotation device).  We do not accept water wings, noodles or other types of floaties.
  • Are there things to do when my child is not surfing?
    • We have an activities tent and resources in addition to enjoying time with other families just like yours.
  • Is there a fee?
    • We provide this day free to families but will have merchandise to purchase and raffles to help fund the events. We encourage you to bring family and friends to come and support us and your surfer!
  • Will there be food?
    • We will provide lunch and water all day. If you would like to bring snacks or if your child is on a special diet, we encourage you to bring what you like.
  • Can my typical child surf?
    • Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to surf siblings. They may come to the beach and enjoy everything else about the day but not the surfing.
  • What else do I need to bring?
    • A towel, sandals (the sand gets hot) and a smile!  You might want to bring a camera to catch all those smiles.
  • Can I get in the water with my child?
    • No, only the qualified surf instructors may be in the water with your child unless you have registered as a volunteer yourself and been to the mandatory volunteer meeting.
